Sosnovka

A pine-shrouded Soviet village where every street corner is a potential firefight.

Sosnovka

Sosnovka is a compact battle-royale map in PUBG: Battlegrounds, introduced alongside the 2023 restructure that split the game into the Battlegrounds and Custom modes. Named after the Russian word for a pine grove, the map carries a distinctly Soviet-era aesthetic and is designed for faster, more frequent engagements than the sprawling 8×8 km classics like Erangel and Miramar.

Its layout pairs a small central settlement with surrounding pine forests, open fields, and scattered industrial outposts, creating a map where players rotate quickly and engagements come in rapid succession. It has become a favourite for players who prefer a tighter, more aggressive pace.

Lore & Background

In the world of PUBG, the island that became Sosnovka was once a quiet forestry settlement in a cold, pine-draped region of the former Soviet Union. Decades of state-run timber operations left behind a patchwork of logging roads, a small administrative town, and a handful of processing plants that have since fallen into a slow, mossy decay. The pines that give the map its name still crowd the hillsides in dense, wind-bent stands, and the smell of resin and wet earth is said to linger in the lower valleys.

When the Battlegrounds programme selected the island for its compact-format testing, engineers reinforced the existing road network and cleared sightlines through the thickest forest corridors so that squads could rotate quickly. The central village—complete with its low-rise apartment blocks, a small church, and a market square—was left largely intact to serve as the map's gravitational centre. Surrounding it, the terrain opens into rolling farmland and the occasional gravel clearing where old logging equipment still sits half-swallowed by undergrowth.

The result is a map that feels less like a wilderness to be survived and more like a small town where everyone knows everyone else, and a single misplaced shot in the market square can set off a chain of engagements that ripples outward through the pines.

In Their Own Story

The drop pod shudders over the treetops and you count the seconds until the canopy breaks. Below, the village of Sosnovka sits in a grey morning haze—three storeys of concrete, a rusted water tower, the dark silhouette of the church steeple. You see two other pods already drifting in from the east, and you know the market square is going to be a meat grinder within ninety seconds.

You cut your angle, drop hard into the pine stand just south of the town. Resin-soaked needles crunch under your boots. A logging road runs between the trees, and on it, a rusted tractor sits with its cab door hanging open. You take cover behind it, rack a round into the chamber, and watch the first squad pour into the square below. Muzzle flashes bloom between the apartment blocks. You wait. You always wait. In Sosnovka, the first fight is never yours to win.

Reader's Guide

Sosnovka hits different from the big maps. You're not trekking for twenty minutes between POIs; you're rotating through a small, dense town and its surrounding woods, and the circle is always breathing on your neck. The personality is that of a sleepy Soviet village that woke up angry—concrete blocks, a church, a market square, a gravel lot with old machinery, all wrapped in a thick pine forest that swallows sound and sight.

Hot drops are the central settlement and the two or three secondary structures scattered just outside the tree line. The market square and the apartment blocks are where you'll find the most loot and the most bodies. If you want a quieter start, push into the dense pine stands on the map's edges—visibility drops fast, and a single misplaced footstep on a logging road will give you away to anyone with a scope.

What makes a round feel distinct here is the speed. There's no long, quiet mid-game. You'll be in three or four engagements before the second circle closes, and the forest corridors between the town and the outer fields create natural choke points where a single player with a good angle can hold a whole squad. Play the pines, respect the sightlines through the town, and remember that in Sosnovka, the quiet corner is only quiet for about forty seconds.
