M16A4

One trigger pull, one round, no excuses—precision is the whole job.

M16A4

The M16A4 is a semi-automatic rifle in PUBG that occupies the long-range, precision end of the 5.56 mm rifle family. Unlike the M416 or SCAR-L, it offers no burst or full-auto mode: every round is fired by a deliberate trigger pull, which rewards players who favour controlled, placed shots over sustained spray. It is a lootable weapon found across all standard maps and is a staple of players who want a reliable mid-to-long-range rifle without the recoil management that full-auto weapons demand.

In a typical loadout the M16A4 slots in as the primary long-range piece, paired with a high-magnification scope and a 30-round magazine. Because it shares 5.56 mm ammunition with the M416, SCAR-L, Groza, and AUG, it fits naturally into a 5.56 mm-centric kit, letting a single ammo type cover both your close-range SMG/AR and your designated-rifle role.

Lore & Background

In the PUBG universe the M16A4 sits in the same 5.56 mm lineage as the M416 and SCAR-L, but where those rifles are built for sustained firefights, the M16A4 is a tool for the player who wants every bullet to count. Its semi-only action strips away the temptation to hold the trigger and pray; instead it asks the shooter to breathe, aim, and commit. In the chaos of a 30-person zone collapse, that discipline is what separates a clean headshot at 200 metres from a rag-tag spray that misses everything past 50.

The weapon's place in the game's meta has always been that of the specialist's rifle. It does not out-damage a Groza in a close-quarters brawl, and it cannot keep up with an M416 in a moving firefight. What it does better than almost anything else in the 5.56 mm pool is deliver a consistent, low-recoil shot at extended range, making it the go-to choice for players who like to hold a ridge, pick off a rotating zone, or duel another long-range rifle from behind a wall.

Because it is a standard loot drop rather than a contract reward or event-exclusive item, the M16A4 is as common as any other rifle on Erangel, Miramar, or Sanhok. You will find it in military crates, inside supply drops, and scattered across buildings. Its ubiquity means that a player who masters its semi-auto rhythm can field it in almost any match without hunting for a special pickup.

In Their Own Story

The zone was shrinking fast, the blue wall already chewing through the tree line to the east. Kira stood behind a concrete wall on the ridge above Pochinki, the M16A4's 4× scope locked on a figure two hundred metres out, crouched behind a rusted sedan. She exhaled. One round. The trigger bit was short, the recoil a gentle nudge up and slightly left. The scope settled back on the target's shoulder. She waited two seconds for the breath to steady, then pulled again. The second round took the helmet. The figure dropped, and the sedan's door swung open as the next player sprinted past. Kira was already cycling the bolt, scanning the next corridor of the shrinking circle, the M16A4 warm and quiet in her hands like a promise she had already kept.

Reader's Guide

So the M16A4. You pick it up, you attach a 4× or 6× scope, and now you are the guy on the hill. That's the whole identity. It's semi-auto only, so there's no burst mode to cheat a quick spray, no full-auto to lay down suppressive fire. Every single shot is a decision you make. That actually makes it easier to control than the M416 at range because the recoil pattern is almost negligible per round—you get a small kick up, you correct, you fire again.

The feel in a 30-metre fight is honestly a little awkward. You're tapping the trigger three or four times while the M416 guy is just holding it down and walking you off. But past 80 metres the M16A4 starts to shine. You're placing shots, not spraying. The time-to-kill on a body shot is a little slower than a full-auto burst, but your hit rate is way higher because you're not fighting a vertical recoil climb.

In a loadout I run it as my long-range AR with a 6× scope and a 30-round mag, and I carry 5.56 ammo that also feeds my M416 or SCAR-L for close range. One ammo type, two roles. The M16A4 is the 'I'm holding this ridge and nobody is crossing it' weapon. You don't win the 10-metre gunfight, but you absolutely win the 150-metre one, and that's the whole point.
