M1014

Five shells, one pump, zero second chances—win the doorway or lose the fight.

M1014

The M1014 is a pump-action shotgun available as a ground pickup across PUBG's maps. Based on the real-world Benelli M1014—a law-enforcement variant of the Benelli M4 family—it serves as a dedicated close-quarters weapon in the game, rewarding players who can close the distance and commit to a burst of 12-gauge buckshot before the next room or corner closes in.

Because it is manually cycled, the M1014 has a noticeably slower time-to-kill than semi-automatic shotguns like the S686, but its punch per shell and the rhythm of the pump make it a favourite for aggressive room-clearing and vehicle ambushes. It is not a mid-range or long-range tool; its entire identity in PUBG is built around winning the first two seconds of a fight.

Lore & Background

The Benelli M1014 entered service with U.S. law-enforcement agencies in the 1990s as a more affordable, semi-automatic alternative to the pump-action shotguns that had dominated tactical roles for decades. Its ARGO (Automatic Recoil Guided Operation) system uses a gas-driven piston rather than direct recoil, giving it a smoother cycling action and a more consistent rate of fire than traditional pump guns. The M1014 became a staple of SWAT and tactical units worldwide, valued for its reliability, 8-round magazine, and the ability to accept a wide range of 12-gauge loads from birdshot to 00 buckshot.

In PUBG, the M1014 is rendered as a pump-action variant, trading the real weapon's semi-auto cycling for a manual slide action. This design choice gives it a slower fire rate but a heavier feel per shot, and a 5-round magazine that forces the player to commit fully to each engagement. It sits in the same tactical niche as the S686 but demands a different rhythm: you pump, you shoot, you pump, you shoot, and there is no semi-auto grace period between rounds.

The weapon's presence in PUBG mirrors its real-world role as a 'last resort' close-range tool—something you grab when you are already inside a building, pinned in a vehicle, or need to clear a hallway before the enemy can react. It is not a weapon you carry for a full match; it is the weapon you find at the exact moment you need it.

In Their Own Story

The lobby doors of the safehouse in Erangel groaned open and the smell of wet concrete hit first. You had the M1014 in your hands, pump already racked, five shells home. The enemy was two rooms away—you could hear the soft click of their magazine seating. You stepped through the doorway, slide forward, and the first shell tore a line of red across their chest. They dropped. You racked the slide, felt the brass eject, and the second shell caught them in the throat as they hit the floor. Three shells left. You pumped again, checked the next room, and the hallway was empty. You holstered the shotgun, grabbed a P90 from the table, and moved out. The M1014 had done its job in four seconds flat. You did not look back.

Reader's Guide

Okay so the M1014 is your 'I am already inside the building' gun. Five shells, pump action, and each one hits like a truck at point-blank. You are not winning a 40-metre fight with this thing—buckshot disperses and you lose most of your pellets past 15 metres, so treat anything beyond a doorway as a coin flip.

The feel is very different from the S686. You rack the slide between every single shot, so your time-to-kill is slower, but each shell packs a solid chunk of damage. In a hallway fight, two well-placed shots at the chest or head and they are down. The pump is your rhythm: shoot, rack, shoot, rack. It is mechanical, it is loud, and it does not forgive you for hesitating.

Loadout-wise, I grab it when I am already in a tight spot—vehicle ambush, room clear, or I just spawned inside a two-storey house and the S686 is not where I need it. Pair it with a compensator to tame the muzzle rise on that first shot, and a quickdraw grip if you want the pump cycle to feel a hair snappier. You are not carrying this as your primary. You are carrying it because the fight is already happening and you need five shells that do not care about range.

One tip: if you hear footsteps behind you in a narrow corridor, do not turn around and spray. Turn, pump, and put one shell centre-mass. The second shell is insurance. That is the whole M1014 philosophy—commit, one round at a time.
